以前見たテレビ番組に、イギリスの上流階級の子女が通う学校の女子寮が出てきました。そこの寮母先生が、「自分のしてほしいと思うことを人にしてあげるように」、と中学生位の生徒たちに話していました。これは私には驚きでした。それまでの私は、この黄金律を、英文法の参考書と『聖書』『論語』以外で見聞きした記憶がありません。イギリスの上流階級の精神的力量が分かった気がしました。
他方、『論語』における黄金律(と白金律)は、私の身の回りには、その影さえありません。もちろん従来の『論語』解説書には、それについての記載はありますが、『論語』における本来の意味は全く理解されていません。
私は現在、『論語』解説書の出版を準備中ですが、その内容は、古今東西のほとんどの解釈を批判するものです。そこで扱う解釈として、先の黄金律の外に、次の解釈があります。
『論語』には特に決まった編集思想はない。古代アジアには本格的な哲学はなかった。仁への明確な説明はない。人生の年齢別の君子像には一般的妥当性がない。まとまった中庸論や正義論はない。友人の選び方に関する言葉には問題がある。君子は争わないという言葉は間違い。運命への言及が極めて少ない。孔子の本当の理想は小市民的である。等々。
実は、『論語』の編集者たちは、その編集作業を通じて、終始一貫した・高度な政治哲学を述べています。その立場から見ると、ほとんどの従来的諸解釈は間違いになるのです。

“ Do to others as you would like others to do to yourself .”
This was a surprise to me. Until then, I have no memory of seeing or listening to this golden rule except in English grammar reference books and "Bible" and "Lun Yu". I understood some of the mental abilities of the British upper class.
On the other hand, around me , there is not even a shadow of the golden rule（and silver rule） in “Lun Yu”. Of course, the conventional commentaries on “Lun Yu” has a description about it, but the original meaning in “Lun Yu” is not understood at all.
I am currently preparing to publish a commentary on “Lun Yu”, which criticizes most of the interpretations of ancient and modern east and west. There are the following interpretations in addition to the golden rule issue;
“Lun Yu” has no particular editorial philosophy. There was no real philosophy there (or in ancient Asia). There is no clear explanation for humanness. There is no general validity for the gentleman images by age of life. There is no collective theory about "the mean" or "right". There is a problem with the words about how to choose friends. The word that gentlemen do not compete is wrong. There are very few references to fate. Confucius's true ideal is to live as a small citizen. And so on.
But in fact, the editors of “Lun Yu” describe a consistent and advanced political philosophy throughout the editing process. Looking from that standpoint, most conventional interpretations are wrong.
